1. Q. With so many leather care products, what do I really need?
A. You should clean and condition your tack regularly. For basic maintainance consider our two-step process:
1) Belvoir Tack Cleaner to remove dirt, sweat and grease.
2) Belvoir Tack Conditioner to acheive a rich glossy finish.
2. Q. What's the best way to soften new leather?
A. Neatsfoot Compound is an ideal preparation to supple new leather. Apply one coat to the upper surface of the leather (the grain) and two coats to the underside (the flesh) and allow to soak in. For finer leathers, oil may be too heavy. Try Leather Balsam Intensive Conditioner which penetrates and nourishes to deeply condition and soften leather.
3. Q. Can I salvage cracked old dry leather?
A.  Depending on how dry the leather is, you need to apply an oil such as Neatsfoot Compound or Carrs Leather Oil (for very dry and cracked leather). Make sure you allow enough time for the oil to soak in before using the saddle.
4. Q. Which shampoo is the best option for light colored horses?
A. Gallop Conditioning Horse Shampoo is a powerful shampoo, suitable for all coat colors. For stubborn grass or stable stains use Gallop Stain Removing Shampoo as an on the spot cleaner - apply directly to stains, lather and rinse the stain away.
5. Q. Which conditioning product has show-quality performance?
A. Dreamcoat is the ultimate coat finish as it produces a high gloss, non-greasy finish that looks and feels completely natural. As it is silicone-free, you can braid up after use and also won't suffer with slippery reins. For longer term use Canter Coat Shine Conditioner is an excellent coat conditioner, which is also non-greasy and leaves a long-lasting shine but more for everyday use as it helps repel staining of the coat for up to 7 days.
6. Q. Why do some products contain silicone?
A. Premium silicone, found in products like Canter Mane & Tail Conditioners, act as a detangling agent to assist regular grooming and reduce hair breakage. It will leave your horse's mane and tail tangle-free for up to 2 weeks and also leaves the hair soft, shiny and manageable.
7. Q. How do the Cornucrescine products differ from other hoof oils and greases?
A. The Cornucrescine 'Total Hoof Therapy' collection is scientifically advanced to stabilize the moisture content of the hoof, whatever the environmental conditions. Traditional greases and oils that are more suitable for cosmetic purposes.
8. Q. How do I remove odor from my horse's hoofs?
A. Odor is often a sign of infection. Most simple infections are helped by using a disinfectant, such as Cornucrescine Hoof Disinfectant which penetrates into the white line. If the condition persists or if you are in any doubt, consult your vet. To help prevent infections, also make sure bedding is clean and dry and use a hoof preparation with anti-bacterial protection.
9. Q. What's the difference between Cornucrescine ointment and dressing?
A. Cornucrescine Original Hoof Ointment actually promotes healthy hoof growth as well as assisting re-structuring of the hoof. Cornucrescine Daily Hoof Dressing is similar, but is more suitable for maintaining healthy hoof growth rather than accelerating it. Hoof dressing is ideal for daily nourishment and protection in order to maintain hoof health.
